Natural American Spirit
Santa Fe Natural Tobacco was getting ready to launch a new product, a special line of naturally grown organic tobacco cigarettes, and they wanted to create an equally special package to put them in. In the words of Curtis Berry, a member of Santa Fe's Marketing and Promotions Group, "We wanted to sell the best cigarette, presented in the best way." To create this special packaging, they went to VinCenzo.
The end result is a sleek, eye-catching, reusable package that not only looks good, but is also satisfying to use. "We had to design a tin that would work with existing retail fixtures and keep the product fresh, but we didn't want to stop there," said Keith Armato, VinCenzo CEO. "First, we made it appealing to the eye. Santa Fe Natural Tobacco created a bold, colorful logo which made that part of the design easy, but to emphasize it even more, we embossed the lid to make the logo really pop. Then, we made the tin functional, by going with a two piece drawn tin with a hinged cover and snap open closure."
In layman's terms, with just a little squeeze, the spring-loaded lid pops open, revealing the product. "It's not only functional, but it's so satisfying to use, you find that you can't put it down. I don't want to know how many hours I spent playing with the tins while we were working on them," admitted Armato.
The product began shipping in early March, 2000, and should be hitting the shelves of specialty tobacco stores later in the month.
